YPO (Young Presidents’ Organization) connects successful, young chief executives in a global, peer network unlike any other. Founded in 1950, in New York City, the organization unites over 23,000 business leaders in 130 countries around a shared mission: Better Leaders Through Education and Idea Exchange™.
To join YPO, a candidate must be under the age of 45 and the chief operator (CEO, president, or equivalent) of a company that fulfills minimum size and revenue requirements. When YPO members reach the age of 50, they continue their lifelong journey of leadership, growth and significance through WPO (World Presidents’ Organization), a global community within YPO of current and former chief executives.
Southern 7 was founded in 1952 and is one of the oldest andlargest chapters in the YPO network of over 400 chapters worldwide. With over 450 members, Southern 7 provides a diverse membership with unique opportunities for members to realize their full potential as presidents, family members and citizens. "Intimacy & Connectivity" is the current theme for Southern 7 and members are continuously encouraged to go out of their way to get to know each other to develop and deepen connections. The success and strength of Southern 7 depends upon member involvement which is available through a wide variety of local, state, and regional events consisting of educational, networking, and social opportunities. At the core, Southern 7 has a passionate and dedicated team of volunteers serving as chapter leadership. The chapter leadership teams are constantly hard at work not only growing chapter membership and increasing the number of state events but also making the collective YPO experience one that is very valuable.
Southern 7 encompasses the seven southeastern states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Southern 7 focuses on Signature and State meeting events that provide members opportunities to access and build their peer network at the city and state level. Signature events include an annual leadership summit, economic forum and spouse retreat.
In addition, Southern 7 provides educational opportunities more tailored to the particular regional interests of members. Throughout each year, and across all 7 states, S7 hosts over 80 events providing excellent educational and social content for its members. On a grander scale, the chapter holds three chapter-wide conferences each year, referred to as "Big 3" meetings. The Big 3's provide a wide variety of social and educational opportunities, normally hosting between 80-150 couples or families and 10-20 resources.
At the heart of YPO is the opportunity to join a smaller, intimate group of members or spouses. “Forum” is groups of eight to ten members/spouses who meet regularly to share issues and concerns in an atmosphere of confidentiality and trust. Forums operate on the principles of mutual respect and privacy and are guided by a peer moderator. Most members say that Forum has not only made them better in business, but also helped them to be better spouses and parents.
Southern 7 cares about the involvement of both spouses and families and offers a variety of chapter events with that in mind. The inclusion of spouses is a unique aspect of YPO among professional organizations and Southern 7 is no different. The number of spouse events have greatly increased over the years with offerings such as wine and cheese events, book club gatherings and luncheons. Past family events have included trips to museums, shows, sporting events and the Big 3 Family meeting held each summer.
